The myth of innocence in rural America has been challenged by authors
like Anderson and Twain, but it was Sinclair Lewis who sought to
destroy this myth once and for all. His Main Street took
the small town apart so thoroughly that no one ever tried to put
it back together. This production examines the 1920 masterpiece,
and traces the painful life of Red Lewis, the man Mencken called
an American Voltaire.
