The name Edgar Allan Poe conjures up the images of ghostly mansions and creaking doors, black cats and things that go bump in the night. Poe himself is a leading character in this bizarre myth. This program traces the life and work of Poe, examines the time in which American literature was growing, and explores the historical time of Edgar Poe. Each of the sections is accompanied by a glossary and an illustrated timeline. Users can print some of
Poe’s best work, and test their knowledge. The program also features numerous games and fun activities. The school version contains a complete curriculum package and a student scoring system. Students can use the program independently, in small groups, or as an entire class.
Recommended for grades 5-12.
- “The visuals are one of the best features here … Just as good, however, is the enormous content. A solid addition to public, academic, circulating, and home libraries.” Library Journal
- “Information spans beyond Poe’s personal world to the literary and historical events of his era. … The program may be used as a self tutorial or for enrichment of the study of Poe, as well as for 19th century American literature and history.” School Library Journal
