| Geography is the study of people, plants, animals, and resources as distributed around the world. This series reveals how geography, in all its many forms, has so greatly affected the course of human history, and how geographic forces continue to dominate our daily lives in the present age. Each program examines a particular geographic region and the natural vegetation, climate, and inhabitants of that region.
1: Let's Look at the Earth
There are numerous ways in which the physical make-up of the earth affects the lives of the people
who inhabit it. This unit helps us to understand a world that shapes our lives in many ways ... and is, in turn, shaped by us.
2: Africa: The World of the Sahara
Africa is a land of remarkable contrasts. Three-quarters of the continent falls within the tropics. Yet, this continent is also home to the world's largest desert: the Sahara.
3: The Americas: The World of the West
The continents of North and South America make up almost all of the land in the Western hemisphere. Because of their favorable geographic resources, the nations that makeup "the Americas" have flourished. 4: Asia: The World of the East
The world’s largest continent embraces a rich diversity of customs, cultures, and natural resources.
5: Europe: The Old World
It can be said that Europe has had a greater influence on the history and cultural evolution of the world than any other continent. Long coastlines and a favorable climate have encouraged the European nations to prosper.
6: Oceania and Antarctica: The World Down Under
The area called "Oceania" encompasses the exotic Pacific Islands, the larger islands that make up New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, and the continent of Australia. To the south of Oceania lies the barren, desolate continent of Antarctica. The diverse geographic features of these lands make for an incredible journey.
