For too many students, learning the correct usage and placement of punctuation marks can seem an impossible chore. This popular six-part series teaches all about end marks, commas, quotation marks, apostrophes, colons, semicolons, dashes, parentheses, and hyphens. The program includes the following units:
1: Beginning with End Marks
This unit examines the end marks, including the period, question mark, and exclamation point.
2: Commas for Clarity
While the comma is one of our most helpful tools, it can also be troublesome. This unit highlights the principles of comma usage.
3: Quotation Marks in Question
This unit reveals how quotation marks enclose direct quotations, and shows their relation to other punctuation marks.
4: The Precise Apostrophe
This unit explains how the apostrophe is used to indicate possession, mark omitted letters in contractions, and help form plurals.
5: Considering the Colon and Semicolon
Semicolons are used to separate elements in a sentence, while colons introduce or point out something that follows.
6: To Conclude ó Some Minor Marks
After a discussion of the dash, parentheses, and hyphen, the series concludes with a review of each punctuation mark.
The DVD includes six printable teacher guides featuring reproducible handouts, activities, exercises, vocabulary words, and other related materials.
Recommended for grades 4-11.
